Ronald J. Bennett, 59, of Scranton died Monday evening at Regional Hospital following a long illness. His wife of 25 years is the former Judith A. Payne.
Born March 26, 1954 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Robert and Hilda (Haddock) Bennett. He attended Scranton schools, and prior to his illness was employed by the Scranton Lace Company for 23 years where he met his wife. Ron was also employed by Meals on Wheels of Lackawanna County. Surviving in addition to his wife are (2) sons: Ronald J. Bennett Jr. of Carbondale, PA, Ryan Bennett of Scranton; (4) daughters: Jennifer D’Esposito of Scranton, Jacqueline Cornell of Ashley, PA, Ashley Bennett of Scranton, and Faith Bennett of Scranton; (3) brothers: Robert Bennett of Jermyn, John Bennett of Scranton and David Bennett of Tunkhannock; (9) sisters: Joan Millan of Scranton, Linda Rizzino of Scranton, Bonnie Mecca of Dunmore, Becky Svetovich of Scranton, Donna Steen of Scranton, Susan Bennett of Scranton, Deborah Burton of Scranton, Barbara Locks of Scranton, and Sandra Dunio of Dunmore; (5) grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Constance Naylor. Marion A. Maney, 63, of Scranton of died December 22, 2013 in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following an illness. Her husband is Richard J. Maney. The couple were married May 23rd, 1985.
Born August 18, 1950 in Munich, Germany, and raised in New York ,she relocated to Scranton in 2004. She was employed by Mansour’s Markets of Scranton, PA. Surviving are (2) daughters: Christine and Walter Sheehan of Scranton, PA, and Tinamarie and Michael DeRienzo of East Rockaway, NY; and (1) grandson: Kenneth Sheehan. She is also survived by Maney family members; Ed and Pat, Mary, Pat and Eileen and Flo. She was beloved for her compassion, kindness and caring ways. Marion was filled with love and selflessness. These traits were continued to the end when she became an organ donor, to give life to someone in need. Her family and friends will always love and cherish her. Michael Fleck Jr., 83 , a resident of St. Mary’s Villa Campus Residence in Elmhurst Twp. and formerly of Scranton died Christmas night in Hospice Community Care in Dunmore following an illness. His wife Pauline Anne (Lazar) Fleck died June 3, 1991. Born February 15, 1930 in Scranton, he is the son of the late Michael and Veronica (Simko) Fleck.
Michael was an Air Force veteran serving with the 440th Air Base Group from 1948 till 1951. Prior to his retirement, he employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator by Linde Enterprises of Honesdale, PA. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow, and the International Union of Operating Engineers, local # 542. Surviving are (2) daughters: Carol R. Munley and husband James of Taylor, PA, and Judith A. Massetti and husband Jeff of Lake Ariel, PA; (1) son: John A. Fleck and wife Renee of Scranton; (2) grandchildren: Jeffrey Massetti of Baltimore, MD, and Danielle Massetti of Lake Ariel, PA; and (2) brothers: Victor and Richard Fleck – both of Scranton; and nieces and nephews. Harry Acker, 100, of Virginia Beach, VA died December 17, 2013 at the Windemere Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia Beach, VA. Born April 13, 1913 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Harry and Carrie (Fellows) Acker.
Harry served as a Navy Seabee during World War II in the Pacific. He was a 1951 graduate of the University of Scranton, and was director of Athletics for the city of Scranton in the late 1940’s. He was employed by the Department of the Army at Aberdeen, Maryland Proving Ground for 26 years retiring in 1983. He was an avid sports fan and played golf well into his 90’s. He is survived by his son Harry Acker and wife Kathy of Virginia Beach, VA; his son-In-law: Charles Craig of Easton, MD; a niece: Carol Craft of Warwick, RI; grandchildren: Thomas Acker and wife Kelli and Jack Craig and wife Julie; great-grandchildren: McKayla and Alex Acker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Campion Acker and his daughter, Mary Ruth Craig; one brother; and three sisters. Harold “Kip” Hagen, Jr., 62, of Tafton, PA passed away early Saturday morning at home.
Kip was born November 15, 1951 in Scranton, PA to Harold “Bud” and Helen Buschmann Hagen. At that time, his family owned the Hagen Lumber Company in downtown Scranton. Kip graduated from La Salle University in Philadelphia in 1973 and began a wonderful career with the National Park Service in 1976. In 1997, he returned to the Scranton area to work at Steamtown National Historic Site and in 2002 became Superintendent. He cherished the National Park Service and his beloved colleagues at the Park. An avid boater, fisherman, and snowmobiler, Kip and Donna enjoyed living on Lake Wallenpaupack and vacationing on the eastern shore of Virginia. When Kip wasn’t renovating historic homes or restoring antique boats, their favorite memories were made spending time with family and friends – especially at Ehrhardt’s Restaurant in Hawley. Kip was a loving husband to his wife Donna, whom he married in 2002. Kip was also a devoted father to his son Jim (and wife Emily) of Baltimore MD; his daughter Sarah of Berkeley CA; and his step-daughter Ashley (and husband John) of Washington DC. Kip was a cherished brother to Nancy (and husband Keith) of Center Harbor NH. And most specially, Kip was “Pop Pop” to Peter, Isabel, and Grace, and Uncle Kip to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Kathleen Robinson. Regina Mislinski Pinto, 96, a resident of Roaring Brook Twp., died Thursday at St. Mary’s Villa, Elmhurst. Her husband, Anthony R. Pinto, died Oct. 15, 1962.
Born in Scranton and raised in Spring Brook, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Catherine Niebjiedowski Mislinski. Regina’s family came first in everything she did. She lived for her children. Although widowed at a young age, she had a zeal for life with boundless energy. She was a strong advocate for education and made advanced learning a priority for her children. An avid traveler, she had a variety of hobbies and always had a great sense of humor. She was proud to be a volunteer at St Mary’s Villa for many years. Surviving are her five children, Annmarie and husband, Michael Margotta, Roaring Brook Twp.; Anthony and wife, Mary Pinto, Marco Island, Fla.; Virginia and husband, Paul Sosik, Dunmore; Pamela and husband, Dave Lach, New Tripoli, Pa.; and Jacqueline Knight, Gouldsboro; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Ernest Mislinski, Spring Brook; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, a son-in-law, five sisters and two brothers. Paul D. “Pauly” Janiszewski, 19, of Madison Township, died Friday morning at his home. Born February 16, 1994 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of Paul and Julie (Clayton) Janiszewski, and he and his sister are the light of their lives. He is a 2012 graduate of North Pocono High School and was a member of Fitness Quest.
Pauly was a loving son, brother, grandchild, nephew, cousin and friend. He cherished the time he spent with his little sister and his best friend Faith. He was quick to protect her and brag about her accomplishments. In addition to the love he felt for his family, his first and only love will forever be Casey Woehrle. Paul and his cousin Robbie were extremely close all of their lives and were more like brothers than cousins. Pauly’s passion was his dirt bike abilities and the love that he had for performing stunts and riding. He had one other love in life and that was his rescued kitten, “Gizmo”. In addition to his parents and sister are his paternal grandmother Patricia Janiszewski , who loved him very much, paternal grandfather Levi Clayton, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. William J. “Bill” Trotz, 92, of Dickson City died Tuesday afternoon after an illness. His wife of 65 years is the former Phyllis Rowe. Born October 23, 1921 in Dickson City, PA, he is the son of the late John and Mary (Carvel) Trotz.
Bill was a 1939 graduate of Dickson City High School, and was an Army veteran serving in Europe during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a District Representative for the Aid Association for Lutherans. Bill was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton serving the church in many capacities. He was an active member of the Dickson City American Legion. Bill was an avid bowler and Philadelphia Phillies and “Red Barons” baseball fan. Surviving in addition to his wife are (2) sisters: Eleanor Miller of Dickson City, PA, and Marlene White and husband William of Kennett Square, PA; and nephew Roger Gregory of Moraga, CA. Also surviving are two cherished friends Maxine Adams of Wilmington, NC, and Stephen Kowalchik of Newtown, PA He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Carol L. Trotz on September 18, 2007. Nicole L. Fiorani, 27, a lifelong resident of the North Pocono area, died Thursday night at Moses Taylor Hospital along with her baby boy who was due in March.
Born Feb. 17, 1986, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of Armand and Cindy Dombek Fiorani, Covington Twp. A graduate of North Pocono High School, she was a member of Thornhurst United Methodist Church. Nicole was a loving mother, daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend. She enjoyed arts, crafts and animals. She loved her family and cherished every moment that she had with them. But nothing in this world could make Nicole happier than her daughter, Kalli, who was the light of her life and could make even her worst day bright. Nicole will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Maria G. Gulla, 85, of Largo, Florida, formerly of Gouldsboro, passed away on Friday, November 29, surrounded by family at the home of her daughter in Spring Brook Twp. Her husband, Anthony S. Gulla died April 26, 1985. Born in Buchendorf, Germany on March 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Josef and Maria (Liesly) Geppert.
Maria was a woman of substance, with impeccable taste and an unmatched sense of style. She knew what she liked and was not afraid to speak her mind. She enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the U.S. and was dearly fond of her Florida home and neighborhood. She loved the warm weather and could often be found enjoying it in her yard. Not only was she the heart of her family, she was a consummate survivor and provider. Maria especially enjoyed a good cup of very hot tea. Surviving are five daughters, Irene Suhow, Pittston; Betty Evans Hudak (Ed), Stroudsburg; Catherine Dunnigan, Pocono Summit; Tony Maria Rollison (David), Spring Brook Twp; and Dolores “Dee” Winans (Joseph), Theodore, AL; grandchildren, Christian Evans, Jason Evans (Andrea), Michael Grugnale (Jackie), Zachary, Jacob and Sarah Rollison, Jennifer McGonagle and Andrew Winans; great grandchildren, Katelyn and Victoria Grugnale, Hallie, Jonathon and Ryan McGonagle, Zackary and Spencer Winans, and four-month-old Lucas D. Evans, in whom she found much joy and delight. Francis R. Ritter, 96, of Scranton and formerly of Tuscaloosa, AL, died Monday evening at Golden Living Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA following a brief illness. Born June 10, 1917 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Frank J. and Bertha (Metz) Ritter. He was educated in the Scranton schools.
Francis was retired from the Army and obtained the rank of Master Sergeant and was a veteran of the European Theatre of War during World War II. Surviving are his brother Manus E. Ritter of Scranton; his niece Marilyn Lukasiewicz and husband Paul of Scranton; his great nephew Paul Lukasiewicz and great niece Julie Lukasiewicz – both of Scranton. He was prededed in death by his sister-In-law: Theresa A. Ritter in 2011. Funeral services were conducted Saturday November 30, 2013 in the Howard J. Stanley W. Jablonski, 82, of Binghamton, NY and Dunmore, PA passed peacefully from this life Friday morning at VNA Hospice at Geisinger/ CMC in Scranton following an illness. He will be reunited with his wife, the former Ursula Geadrities, who preceded Stanley in 1991.
Born July 8, 1931, in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Stanley and Anna (Pliska) Jablonski. He attended the Scranton public schools and was a graduate of Temple University. Stanley was an Air Force veteran serving as a military policeman. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at IBM as an Automated Equipment Specialist. During his career he was employed by Singer Link and Sears. Stanley enjoyed fishing, camping and the great outdoors. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Surviving are his son: Stanley D. Jablonski and wife Maureen of Shepherd, TX; his daughter: Jo Anne Potter and husband Gary of Conklin, NY; and his sister: Janice Jablonski of Scranton, PA. Also surviving are two granddaughters: Sarah Howell, her husband Mark and his son Graydon, along with Jo Elle and her significant other Vincent Lent. Einar served in the Norweigan Navy and was a US Army veteran. Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the construction Industry in Brooklyn, NY. He is of the Lutheran faith. Pat attended St. Peter’s High School and Tottenville High School in Staten Island, NY. Pat was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Kalamazoo AOR-6 and the USS Wanamasa. He was a member of the Italian-American War Veterans of Scranton, PA, and the Disabled American Veterans of Camp Hill, PA. Pat was self employed and was involved with several non profit organizations helping children. Joan was a graduate of Blue Ridge High School. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the Social Security Administration. She is a former member of St. Joseph’s Church in North Scranton. Joan was an avid quilter, baker, and photographer of family events. She also crocheted many afgans for family members. Joan was single and is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Harold “Mac” McDonald, 73, of Mayfield died Wednesday evening at Regional Hospital in Scranton following a brief illness. Born February 2, 1940 in Pittston, PA, he is the son of the late John H. and Jane (Eustice) McDonald.
Prior to his retirement he was a career U.S. Marine Corps obtaining the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and served three tour of duty during the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Commendation. He was a member of the Avoca V.F.W. Post. A special thank you to Dr. Joseph Leo for his wonderful care and compassion to Harold and his family. Surviving are (2) daughters: Tina R. Gloria Kelly, 73, of Moscow died Friday morning at Hospice Community Care in Dunmore following an illness. Her husband is John A. “Jack” Kelly. The couple celebrated 52 years of marriage on August 12th.
Born December 19, 1939 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late J.C. and Helen (Zubrickas) Kveragas. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow, and was a member and supporter of the ASPCA and the National Humane Society. Gloria would always put others before herself. Her greatest joy in life were her family, especially her grandchildren who affectionately called her Mammie. She also enjoyed spending time with her family at her summer cottage in the Thousand Islands – Ontario. Our memories will hold her in our hearts forever. Kenneth R. Webber Sr., 69, of Scranton, PA died Friday morning in Commonwealth Inpatient Hospice Unit at Regional Hospital following an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Emanuel Webber on July 24, 2013. Born May 30, 1944 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Richard and Bertha Webber.

Wendell Morgan, 54, of Scranton, died Monday in Hospice Community Care in Dunmore.
Second child of the late Wendell and June Chapman Morgan, he is survived by his older sister Wendy Curcio and her husband John, Laguna Niguel, CA, three brothers, Mitch and wife Sondra Morgan with their children Paige and Luke, Clarks Summit PA, Tim Morgan and Fiancé Karen Kresge, Scranton PA and Jamie Morgan, Scranton PA. Wendell’s paternal grandparents were James and Hannah Morgan of Scranton, and his maternal grandparents were Norman and Lenore Chapman of Lake Ariel, PA. Throughout his life, Wendell, or as family and friends sometimes called him Derek or Duke died of complications from cancer/liver failure. Derek was diagnosed with Leukemia at 10 years of age and given only 2 years to live. He fought a heroic battle with an outlook on life that compared with no other. He was thankful for everyday and let you know with that unmistakable, hearty, infectious, laugh of his. In his courageous battle he helped everyone he knew and was generous beyond compare. He was always had time for everyone and many times played Santa and the Easter Bunny at John D, Wittier School in Scranton. Along with his family, children were the love of his life. His 13-year-old niece Paige and eight-year-old nephew Luke brought joy and love to Derek. He frequented their events, played with and spoiled them at every chance. He had love for Penn State football and the Washington Redskins, and looked forward to Sunday night bowling league. He worked at Triple A Manufacturing, was co-owner of Partek Inc., a Sub-contractor for Scranton Products, and owner of WDM Contractors. He always ended his phone calls with “Give everybody hugs for me” and “Aloha”. He will be missed greatly by family and friends. William Cerato, 88, a resident of Elizabeth Church Manor in Binghamton, NY died peacefully Wednesday morning following an illness. His wife, the former Kathleen Lauterburn, died in 1990. Born March 2, 1925, in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Michael and Artemis (Sargeant) Cerato. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a supervisor with Conrail.
Bill was a member of the Nimmonsburg United Methodist Church, and was a greeter every Sunday. He was a member of the King Solomon Lodge, F&A Masons, and was an active member of the Order of Odd Fellows where he served as a District Deputy. Bill belonged to two senior choirs groups, and was a member of the Choral Society of Binghamton. He previously sang in several barbershop choral groups. Bill spent his retirement helping others. He was very active at various nursing homes, entertaining them with singing and dancing. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Ethel R. “Rae” Jones, 91, of Dickson City died early Sunday morning in the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger/Community Medical Center following a brief illness. She was the widow of Harold W. “Sam” Jones who died January 29, 1999. Born November 29, 1921 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Bell) Mitchinson.
Ethel was a 1939 graduate of Scranton Technical High School and later in her marriage worked in part time retail jobs. A former member of the Green Ridge Primitive Methodist Church for over 50 years, she taught Sunday school for over 25 years. She was a woman of strong faith, and a devoted wife and mother who lived her life with the Lord in her heart. She was a caring and thoughtful person, and was an avid New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan. Rae was an excellent cook and baker known for her nutbreads that she gave to friends and neighbors. In her later years she enjoyed family times peeling potatos and apples while her family prepared dinner. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could recite poems and stories from her life at the drop of a hat. Surviving are her daughter Martha Jones and son David Jones of Dickson City, both of whom had the privilege of sharing their lives with her and the distinct honor of caring for her. She is also survived by her son William of Virginia, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins who thought the world of her, and whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her greyhound “Brittany”. She was preceded in death by three sisters Edith Hart, Leona Bennett and Trudy Seymour; and two brothers William and George Mitchinson. LeCompte Devereaux, 90 ,a resident of Oakwood Terrace in Moosic and formerly of Scranton died Sunday in the Green Ridge Health Care Center in Scranton following a period of declining health. She is the widow of Raymond Devereaux who died July 26, 1999. Born February 10, 1923 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Wilber H. and Verna (Wilcox) LeCompte.
Muriel attended the Scranton Public schools, and prior to her retirement in 1985, was employed as a seamstress with Manhattan Shirt Company in Scranton. Muriel was a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Scranton, and was a member of the church choir. She was an active volunteer with Mercy Hospice and Telespond. Lois E. Truitt, a former resident of Scranton, died Tuesday at Clarks Summit Senior Living Center. She is the widow of Elwood M. Truitt, who died in 2004. Lois recently celebrated her 100th Birthday.
Born August 4, 1913 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Amanda Homan. She was a lifelong resident of Scranton, but enjoyed summers at Lake Winola. She and her husband were active members of the Canoe Club there and enjoyed many years of playing golf and socializing with friends. She was educated at Central High School in Scranton and had been employed at the Revere Company in Scranton as a business secretary. She was actively involved in the Asbury United Methodist Church and it’s Epworth Class. She was also a member of the Century Club and was a Girl Scout troop leader. Lois was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who always had a smile on her face and a fun story to tell. She cared deeply for her family and friends and will be missed by all. The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation for the staff of Clarks Summit Senior Living and AseraCare Hospice, especially her aides Brenda, Debbie and Jen, who watched over Lois daily with care and determination. Ron worked in the garment Industry for over 45 years. Ron took great pride in his home he helped to build. There was not a project or a problem he didn’t attempt to solve. He loved to joke around and had a wonderful sense of humor that made people laugh. Ron will be greatly missed by his best friend Gregory Pasternak who was always there for him especially the last three years in which Ron had many health issues. Surviving are (2) brothers: Patrick Mulherin and wife Mary Ann of Scranton, and Thomas Keiper of Scranton; (3) sisters: Ruth Barthhold and husband Edward of Dickson City, Beatrice Russup and husband John of Allentown, and Patricia Walenda and husband Wally of Florida; and nieces and nephews. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home in Elmhurst Twp. Mary was an avid traveler, who especially loved her trips to Europe. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. George Yedinak, 66, owner and operator of the Yedinak Dairy Farm in Madison Township, died unexpectedly at his farm on August 7th. The son of Andrew and Mary (Simyan) Yedinak, he was an avid dairy farmer his entire life, working on the farm established in 1948 by his parents.
His herd consisted of over 100 registered award winning Holsteins, having received the DHIA (Dairy Herd Improvement Association) Progressive Genetics Herd Award, Herd Management Award and High Herd Award multiple times. George was also honored by the Countryside Conservancy Outreach Committee in the “Working Farm Category” for his excellence in preserving and improving land for generations to come and by the Lancaster Farming Publication as the owner of a Dairy of Distinction. As a youth, he was involved in the Boy Scouts and in Little League Baseball, but his love of farming soon took precedence. He consistently enhanced farming techniques to increase butterfat content and quality of milk. He upgraded machinery and the milking process to improve productivity and efficiency. George is survived by two sisters, Mary-Ann Houser and her husband William of Danbury, CT and Linda Yedinak-Meyers and her husband Kurt of Wayne, PA. He will be missed by his niece Karen Johnston and her family, husband Kevin and children Kurtis and Karli; his nephews Kevin Houser and his wife Sharon Shen, son August; Jeffry Houser and his wife Tammi; David Houser, Steven Meyers and Gregory Meyers, as well as a maternal aunt and many cousins. Elizabeth Scheuer, 94, died at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton on July 27, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, W. John Scheuer, in 1994.
Born in Scranton in 1919, the daughter of the late Frances Watkins Powell and Edgar Powell, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Powell School of Business and was employed by David Spruks Co. until her marriage in 1941. She devoted her life to her family and serving the community. She was president of the Junior League of Scranton and received the Margaret L. Richards Award for her outstanding service to that organization and to the wider community. She was highly involved in Elm Park Methodist Church, where she served on the Administrative Board, the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, the Elm Park Mid-Winter Institute Committee and as co-chair of the Elm Park Bazaar to benefit the missionary program. She also taught Sunday School for many years. She was on the board of the Clarks Summit State Hospital, vice president of the board of the Lackawanna Mental Health Association, and was co-chair of volunteers for the Mental Health Association Friendship Club for former psychiatric patients. She was on the Scranton Day Nursery board, and co-chair of her Central High School 50th class reunion. She also served as a child care supervisor for the Scranton YWCA Women’s World. She was a loving, caring and supportive mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Miller and her partner, Walter vom Saal, Oneonta, N.Y.; her son, Jack Scheuer and his wife, Diane, Clarks Summit, Pa.; and her grandchildren, Marshall Miller and his partner, Dorian Solot, Albany, N.Y.; Kristian Scheuer, Philadelphia, Pa.; Brad Scheuer, Philadelphia, Pa.; and two great-grandchildren, Anya Solot Miller and Zora Solot Miller. Mildred A. Muller died peacefully on July 26, 2013, after a brief illness. Born June 3, 1913, Mildred had recently celebrated her 100th birthday and was able to live an active and fulfilling life. Her husband was Karl Muller whom she married in 1939. She was the daughter of the late Esther Herron Messersmith and Charles J. Messersmith.
Mildred graduated from Scranton Technical High School and was employed at the Scranton Trust Company until her marriage. For numerous years she was an active member of Myrtle Street United Methodist Church and the Century Club of Scranton. Theresa Webber, 67, of Scranton died Wednesday morning in Commonwealth Hospice at Regional Hospital of Scranton following a long illness. Her husband is Kenneth Webber. Born July 19, 1946 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late William and Theresa (Baldoni) Emanuel.
Theresa was educated in the Scranton schools, and prior to her illness was employed in the hotel Industry. She was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church of Moosic. Surviving in addition to her husband are (4) sons: Kenneth Webber and wife Amy of Scranton, William Webber and wife Stacey of Scranton, John J. Webber of Scranton, and James G. Joseph A. Powell Jr., 91, of Madison Twp. died Monday evening at his home following an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Margaret E. Gilpin in 1984. Born December 12, 1921 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Joseph A. and Winifred Powell.
Joseph attended Scranton schools and the University of Scranton. He was a Navy veteran serving during World War II achieving the rank of Pharmacist Mate First Class. Joseph was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, and the construction industry in New Jersey. Upon returning to Pennsylvania he pursued a second career as a Realtor. He was very active with Little League and the Boy Scouts of America and an avid model railroad enthusiast. . He was a longtime active member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow. Surviving are his son Gerard M. Powell and wife Sharon of State College, PA; (2) grandchildren: Ashleigh and Dylan; and two great-grandchildren. Louann was a graduate of North Pocono High School and was previously employed at the Tobyhanna Army Depot. The Rev. Dr. K. Frederick Mauger, Major General on the retired list of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, died July 12, 2013. His wife of 55 years preceded him on March 2, 2006. They made their home in Spring Brook Twp., Lackawanna County, PA.
Father Mauger had a career in the public schools of Pennsylvania, retiring as Superintendent of Schools of the North Pocono School District in 1984. Prior to coming to North Pocono, he was superintendent of the Bellefonte Area Schools. Father Mauger entered the teaching profession in 1953 at the Milton Area School District, the same district from which he graduated in 1940. Father Mauger was a military veteran of 5 years in WWII. Continuing his military career in the PA Army National Guard, he held most every grade from Private to Major General on the retired list. Military schooling consisted of Army Aviation, Command and General Staff School and a short term at the U.S. War College, Washington, D.C. During the Korean War, he served on active duty with the 28th Infantry Division and the Division Aviation Officer. Father Mauger’s civilian education included a B.S. in Education, a Master’s Degree from Bucknell University and a Doctorate in Education from the Pennsylvania State University. He was a classroom teacher, guidance counselor, middle school principal, curriculum coordinator and Superintendent of Schools. He was appointed by Governor Raymond Shaffer to the State Board of Education for a 6 year term, served on a National Committee Evaluating Colleges and Universities of Education, Past President of two Rotary Clubs, Chairman of the Bellefonte Area Industrial Development Committee, elected for two terms as Mayor of the Borough of Milton, PA, Chairman of the Milton and Bellefonte Chapters of the American Red Cross, a 10 gallon plus Blood Donor, and served on the Board of Telespond Senior Services. Following early retirement from the North Pocono School District, he attended the University of Scranton and was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church in 1984. Father Mauger served parishes in Hamlin, Honesdale, Indian Orchard, Wilkes Barre, Kingston and Scranton. He served as a Volunteer Chaplain at Community Medical Center for 7 years, and was currently serving as Director of Pastoral Care at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. Father Mauger is survived by their 3 children: Karen Ann Ebeling, Pennsylvania Furnance; F. Scott Mauger and his partner Michael Kelley, Bellefonte; Karl F. Mauger II and his wife Patricia, Throop. Seven grandchildren: Shawn Ebeling and wife Christine, Michael Mauger, Bethany Lucas and husband David, Wesley Mauger and wife Christina, Ian Mauger and wife Nikki, Trevor Mauger, Courtney Smargiassi and husband Julius, and great-grandchildren Jacob and Emma Lucas, Mackenzie and Alex Ebeling, Aiden Janowicz, Alex and Shane Mauger, Robert Mauger and Dante Smargiassi. Father Mauger was a member of all Masonic orders. After 38 and 1/2 years of military service, retiring in 1979, his numerous military awards included the Legion of Merit, the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, The Europena Theatre of Operations with 5 battle stars, the PA Distinguished Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, The Good Conduct Medal, German Occupation Medal along with many Pennsylvania service awards. In 1994 he received a medallion from the Mayor of LeMons, France, for assisting in the liberation of that city in 1944.

Russel S. McCurdy, 83, of Otego, NY, formerly of Madison Twp, died Wednesday morning at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta, NY, after an illness. He was born November 6, 1929 in Palmyra, PA; he is the son of the late Paul H. and Grace (Heck) McCurdy.
Russel was a graduate of the Milton Hershey High School and the Uniontown Baptist School. Russel was ordained in 1991 and served as pastor and missionary until he became ill. He formerly owned and operated Six Maple Florist and greenhouses in PA and was self- employed as a carpenter for many years. Jack C. Davis, 87, of Scott Twp. died Sunday evening at Abington Manor Nursing Home in S. Abington Twp. where he was a guest. His wife of 59 years is the former Doris Collins. Born October 4, 1925 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late John and Alice (Williams) Davis. Prior to his retirement, Jack was employed at Scranton Dry Goods and was formerly employed at Leonard’s Hardware in Scranton for many years.
Jack was an avid photographer and enjoyed nature very much. He spent many vacations traveling across the country visiting our National Parks. He enjoyed hiking our local parks and trails, returning home to paint the images he encountered or create carvings out of wood. Jack was a very creative and artistic person, and many of his artistic works are enjoyed in homes throughout our area. Jack was a long time member of United Baptist Church of Scranton. Surviving in addition to his wife are his sister Lillian Shelp of Clarks Summit, PA; sister In law: Shirley Davis and husband Marshall of Harrisburg, PA; nephew: Brad Shelp and wife Donna of Greenfield Twp. and niece: Terri Golosky and husband Joseph of Greenfield Twp. Elizabeth Rinker, 85, a resident of St. Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst died Friday evening following an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville A. Rinker. Born August 29, 1927 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Evan and Frances (Atkinson) Jones.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. She loved bowling, horseracing and baseball. She was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Florida Gators Fan. Surviving are a son: Thomas G. Jeffery W. Graham, 95, of Crystal Lake,Clifford Twp. and Clarks Summit died Saturday evening in Hospice Community Care Inpatient unit in Dunmore following an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Linen Graham on October 21, 2006. Born May 23, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Warren C. and Marion (Jones) Graham.
Mr. Graham was a 1937 graduate of the Hill School in Pottstown, PA, and a 1941 graduate of Cornell University where he was in the Sigma Phi fraternity and did graduate studies at Stonier School of Banking, Rutgers University. Prior to his retirement, he was a Senior Vice President with the mortgage department at PNC Bank and formerly Northeastern Bank. He founded Abington Abstract Co. in 1979 in Clarks Summit and was involved with the daily operation until 2008. Mr. Graham was a board member of the Moses Taylor Hospital Foundation and was a 50 + year member of the Kiwanis Club of Scranton. Mr. Graham previously resided in West Chester and Paoli, Pennsylvania prior to moving to the Scranton area. He was the owner of International Harvester business in West Chester. Surviving are (2) daughters: Jane Graham of Mendocino, CA, and Kathleen Congdon of Granite Bay, CA; step-children: Linda Sproul of Waverly, PA, John Connell of Waverly, PA and Richard Connell of Glastonbury, CT. and (5) grandchildren: Melissa Watson of Columbia, MO, Stephanie Cooke of Portland, ME, Emily Penrod of Florence, AZ, Blake Congdon of Washington, DC, and Drew Congdon of Lincoln, CA.
